Do you get
accused of wearing too many neutral colors? Do people ask you why all you ever
wear are black, brown, beige and gray colors? If yes then rest assured that there
are simple ways to add color (or just a splash of color!) to your wardrobe
without doing anything drastic or going completely overboard!
Before you
rush out and buy a pink pantsuit to surprise everyone you know, bear in mind
that small changes can count for a great deal. For example, if you love to wear
black and white then choose a more vivid color to add some contrast to your
ensemble such as a red scarf or a red pair of shoes.
Start to Experiment with
Color
If you are
really color shy then start even smaller- experiment with makeup colors that
have more vibrancy to them then you are used to wearing such as lipstick or
nail polish, or maybe even eyeshadow with a tad more vavoom! You might want to trade
in your brown eyeshadow for a change and wear a soft lavender shade instead.
Experiment
with different colors when you go shopping to find out which hues are suitable
for you and which are not. Take a friend along to help give you an honest
opinion. Remember that fire engine red, lemon yellow, emerald green and yell
out loud fuchsia may not all complement your complexion or the clothing you
already have in your wardrobe. Put your own fashion savvy to the test and
choose wisely.
Add Colorful Accessories
Add Colorful Accessories
Start small
when it comes to adding colorful additions to your wardrobe. Accessories are
always a good place to start. Choose a pair of shoes with more color than you
usually buy, or choose a scarf, bold necklace or a purse. Another option is to
buy a camisole or top suitable for work or going out and then pair it with your
favorite black or gray jacket. This is instant oomph!
Graduate to More Color
Once you
become more comfortable with colorful pieces you can then show how brave you
are by graduating up to buying more colorful sweaters, blouses and jackets.
Only buy items that you feel comfortable wearing. Even if your best friend
tells you that something looks fantastic on you, if you do not feel good about
it then keep looking. Clothing items do not grow on you- you either embrace
them warmly or you don’t.
If it is your
outerwear that needs a boast then a scarf works well here too. Many people
choose neutral colors for the wintertime and this can be very drab. If you need
an instant pick-me-up for the cold winter months then add a brightly colored
scarf to your black or brown coat and you will feel better every time you look
at it (and likely others will too!).
One last point
to make- vivid colors attract attention and draw the eye in so make sure you
wear brightly colored items that will play up your best features. If you think
your hips are too big or your waist is not narrow enough then don’t adorn it
with a thick magenta colored belt!
