Ladies, start treating your nails well and they will thank you by being healthy and beautiful!
Nutrition is important as what you do (or don’t) eat reflects in the health of your nails. Here are some problems to be aware of:
*Nails that are dry and brittle are caused by a lack of vitamin A as well as calcium.
*Hangnails are caused by a lack of protein, folic acid and vitamin C.
*White bands across the nails are brought on by protein deficiency.
*Splitting nails are caused by a lack of sufficient hydrochloric acid.
*Inadequate intake of vitamin B12 can lead to excessive dryness, very rounded and curved ends and darkening of nails.
*A lack of zinc can cause development of white spots on fingernails.
*Cuts and cracks in the nails may indicate a need for more liquids.
*If the skin around the cuticles reddens this could be a sign of poor metabolism of essential fatty acids.
And now for the good news- there are ways to remedy these dietary problems. Below are some guidelines to follow in order to improve the health of your nails.
*Eat a diet composed of fifty percent raw vegetables and fruits in order to supply necessary vitamins, minerals and enzymes. Eat foods rich in sulfur and silicon, such as broccoli, fish and onions. Include foods rich in biotin such as soy, brewer’s yeast and whole grains.
*Drink plenty of water and other liquids.
*Choose to supplement your diet with royal jelly, spirulina or kelp, which are rich in silica, zinc and B vitamins and help to strengthen nails.
*Drink fresh carrot juice daily (if you can stomach it) as it is high in calcium and phosphorus and is excellent for nail health.
Make an effort to eat better and your whole body will be healthier. Not to mention the fact that you will feel better, you’ll have more energy and you will be your most beautiful (and so will your nails)!
