What woman does not want to look fantastic all of
the time? Foundation can even out skin tone and give you the flawless look that
you love. Let us look at some tips to give you a smooth finish.
In order to select the right foundation for your
skin tone you must figure out if you have oily skin, dry skin or combination
skin. Oily skin and dry skin are relatively self-explanatory but what is
combination skin? It is basically a combination of the other two skin types.
Combination skin is skin that gets oily in the T zone of the face. If you were
to draw a letter “T” on your face the top of it would be written across your forehead
and the rest of it would come down over your nose and end at your chin- that is
your T zone ladies!
Foundations that are meant for oily skin contain
words on the labels such as "oil-free" or "oil-control". When it comes to dry
skin you need to choose one that is moisturizing so opt for a creamier
foundation. Foundations for oily skin help to reduce shine and absorb the
oiliness while the foundations for dry skin provide a greater level of
hydration to the skin.
Combination skin provides more of a challenge because
it combines two skin types in one. What you need to determine is whether your
skin leans more towards being oily or dry. Let that help you decide which
foundation is most appropriate for your skin. A good choice for combination skin is
cream-to-powder
bases.
Finding
Your Foundation
Once you have made this assessment about your skin
make a trip to a makeup counter near you and choose a few colors that seem to
be close to what your actual skin color is. Ask the cosmetician on staff to
help you in this task. Many women test foundation on their hands but the color
of your hands and face is not exactly the same so that is not a good test as to
what type of foundation to buy. Instead apply a few dots of each color on your
jawline and blend it in with a makeup sponge (or with clean fingers if no
sponge is available for use at the store!).
Remember that foundation is meant to even out skin
tone and improve imperfections so that the proper color should replicate your
natural color. Looking natural is the name of the game. You want other people to
notice your smooth skin and not your foundation!
Foundations provide the base for the rest of your
makeup and the application needs to be as smooth as possible. Do not apply with
a heavy hand but go easy. A little goes a long way.
There are foundations that are yellow-based (warm
shade) and those that are pink-based (cool shade). Most women’s skin looks good
with a yellow-based foundation but if you are on the fair side then try a
pink-based one instead.
